Need for Turmeric Policy

Turmeric is recognized as an important cash crop. However, since farmers are not receiving adequate financial benefits from it, there is a need for a comprehensive turmeric policy. This policy should involve all stakeholders to address and suggest solutions for the challenges faced throughout the entire turmeric value chain—from cultivation to harvesting, processing, and marketing. Given the current minimal participation of farmer producer companies in turmeric marketing and export, there is a strong need for a policy that facilitates greater involvement in these areas.

There are increasing demands from public representatives to resolve the issues faced in turmeric cultivation, processing, and sales. A unified effort is needed to ensure that turmeric-producing farmers benefit from various agricultural, marketing, and Spice Board schemes through convergence. The involvement of all related institutions working in turmeric production, processing, and export is essential to address the associated problems effectively. As such, the need for an integrated turmeric policy has clearly emerged to fulfill the expectations of all institutions and support the overall development of the turmeric sector.
